Business & Program Management Services in Japan’s Healthcare Industry

CTG knows only one country (Japan) and only one industry (Healthcare).  Within Japan’s healthcare industry, our knowledge and experience are broad.  Since 1988, most of our clients have been multinational medical and pharmaceutical manufacturers and private equity firms which have used CTG to help them establish and manage healthcare companies, businesses, and projects in Japan.

Most often clients have hired us to help them to establish subsidiaries in Japan, which CTG has managed for several years, until it was time for these companies to be sold or merged into another Japanese entity or placed under permanent general managers who required little if any further assistance from CTG.  All of these assignments lasted more that one year and some more that 10 years.

Consulting Services in and Related to Japan’s Healthcare Industry

In addition to long-term management services contracts, as discussed above, CTG has also provided shorter-term consulting services, including for example:

  • CTG has helped foreign healthcare companies to understand the size and nature of their business opportunities in Japan and to define and implement workable market entry strategies
  • CTG has represented foreign healthcare companies in their dealings with  government agencies and prospective technical, commercial, and financial partners in Japan.
  • CTG has helped healthcare companies to troubleshoot and resolve particular regulatory, reimbursement, pricing, distribution, marketing, sales, staffing, and other problems which arise in the course of managing a business in Japan.

 

Importation and Sales of Medical Devices in Japan

In addition to its management services and consulting practices, CTG long maintained a small medical device import business in Japan.  This business was eventually spun off, becoming Chicago Tokyo Medical (CTM).  CTM was  later sold to Robert A. (“Bob”) Cornell, a former long-term employee of CTG.  Although CTG no longer has a stake in CTM, the two companies maintain deep friendships and close working relationships which are beneficial to the clients, customers, suppliers, and employees of both companies.
